Q: What makes the GLUCOCARD 01-mini different from other systems already on the market?

A: Every person who needs to monitor his/her blood glucose has individual preferences. That is why there are many options in the market. GLUCOCARD 01-mini is the perfect solution for all who want a system that offers high-end technology AND is simple and easy-to-use. Prominent features include auto coding, AST, 7-second test time, 0.3 µL sample size, pre/post meal flagging and interchangeable colored faceplates.

Q: Why is "auto coding" significant?

A: GLUCOCARD 01-mini does not need to be manually coded by the user. Coding is automatically accomplished by inserting a test strip into the meter. There are three auto-codes: F-2, F-3, and F-4. (These are not error codes.)

Q: How long does the battery last?

A: The meter requires one lithium CR2032 battery, which generally lasts approximately 3,000 tests.

Q: Do I need to reset the time after the batteries have been replaced?

A: No meter settings or stored test results will be altered unless:

  • The metal portion on the main unit is touched with fingers or any metal.
  • It takes more than five minutes to replace the battery.
  • The battery is housed incorrectly.
  • A used or weak battery is inserted.

Q: How do I change the colored face plate?

A: The meter comes with three interchangeable colored faceplates. These can be changed as often as the user likes. Instructions for Changing the Faceplates

Q: Does the GLUCOCARD 01-mini have pre/post meal flagging?

A: Yes, the meter has built in "flags" to help categorize and identify results. Both pre and post meal flags are available. These flags are stored in the memory with the test results.

Q: Which test strip does the GLUCOCARD 01-mini system require?

A: GLUCOCARD 01-Sensor Test Strips

Q: Why is the test strip bottle enclosed in a foil pouch?

A: The foil pouch is used to extend the life of the test strips once they're opened. Thus supporting the six-month "good after open" claim, and helps control environmental factors that could affect test strips.

Q: What is the test strip shelf-life?

A: Test strips have 18-month shelf-life expiration, and are good for up to 6 months after opening. Remember to write the date you opened the test strip bottle in the space provided.

Q: Can I use the GLUCOCARD 01-mini system if I am undergoing oxygen therapy?

A: The GLUCOCARD 01-mini may yield false results for those undergoing oxygen therapies. (The chemistry of the 01-sensor test strip is Glucose Oxidase.) If you are undergoing oxygen therapies, the GLUCOCARD X-METER system may be a better option for you.

Q: Is the GLUCOCARD 01-mini system affected by maltose and/or icodextrin?

A: No, maltose and/or icodextrin do not affect the GLUCOCARD 01-mini system.

Q: Does the GLUCOCARD 01-mini display test results in both mg/dL and mmol/L?

A: No, the 01-mini is programmed to display only mg/dL in the US.

Q: Is the GLUCOCARD 01-mini Blood Glucose Meter whole blood or plasma referenced?

A: GLUCOCARD 01-mini is plasma referenced.

Q: How do I clean the GLUCOCARD 01-mini and how often?

A: Keep the test strip port free of blood, moisture, dirt, or dust. Use a lint-free cloth, dampened with water to clean your meter. Do not use an abrasive cloth or antiseptic solution, as these may damage the display screen. Do not clean inside the battery compartment.

Q: What type of preservatives may be used?

A: Heparin samples of blood may be used. Do not use other preservatives.

Q: What other alternate sites are approved for GLUCOCARD 01-mini testing?

A: GLUCOCARD 01-mini is approved for palm testing. Sites other than your fingertip may have fewer nerve endings, so obtaining a blood sample from the palm may be less painful. The technique for alternate site testing is different from fingertip testing so refer to the instructions that came with your meter and lancing device. If you have more questions about alternate site test versus fingertip testing, ask your doctor or a certified diabetes educator.
